Amazon Issues Urgent Recall on Hydrocarbon Fuel Bottles Sold via Its Platform

August 20, 2025 – Amazon has teamed up with Walmart to recall Firefly Fuels’ Safe & Green 32-ounce hydrocarbon fuel bottles. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found these products can seriously harm young children, causing poisoning and chemical pneumonia.

The CPSC recall notice states that around 11,200 bottles were sold online. They were available on Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and directly from the manufacturer. This took place from August 2019 to May 2025, with a price of about $20 each. The recall was triggered when tests showed the nozzle applicator isn’t safe for children. The fuel was also labeled “Non-Toxic,” which is incorrect. This goes against the Poison Prevention Packaging Act and the Federal Hazardous Substances Act.

Officials warn that even tiny amounts of ingested or inhaled hydrocarbon fuel can cause serious lung damage, long-term injury, or even death. No injuries have been reported so far. However, consumers should remove the non-child-resistant nozzle right away. They can replace it with the original child-resistant cap if they have it. If not, keep the bottles out of children’s reach.

On their recall pages, Amazon’s Product Safety Team promises to “stop the sale of affected items and promptly inform both customers and sellers.” Meanwhile, Walmart and Sam’s Club say they are “taking swift action to prevent the sale and ensure safe compliance of all products.”

Consumers with recalled bottles should reach out to Firefly Fuels. They can get a free replacement lid and new labeling. You can find more details and instructions at www.fireflyfuel.com or in Amazon’s recall notification section of your account.
