Jets Acquire DT Jowon Briggs in Wednesday Trade

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - On Wednesday, the New York Jets improved their defensive line. They traded for defensive tackle Jowon Briggs from the Cleveland Browns. The Jets sent a sixth-round pick and a seventh-round pick in 2026, with the seventh originally from Buffalo.
Briggs, 23, was a seventh-round pick of the Browns in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati. In six games as a rookie, he made 13 tackles. He also had one tackle for loss, two quarterback hits, and recovered a fumble. The 6-foot-1, 313-pound interior lineman will back up Pro Bowl veteran Quinnen Williams. He’ll also help fill the spot left by injured tackle Byron Cowart in training camp.
Briggs is a Cincinnati, Ohio native. He tallied 170 tackles and 12 sacks across five seasons at Cincinnati and Virginia. He will compete for snaps with Leonard Taylor III, Payton Page, and Jay Tufele. The Jets are wrapping up preseason prep for Friday’s finale against the Philadelphia Eagles.
