BATON ROUGE, La. - Top headlines for Thursday, August 21, 2025:
Entergy Louisiana Gets Green Light for Meta-Backed Power Projects The Louisiana Public Service Commission approved Entergy Louisiana’s proposal by a 4–1 vote. They plan to build three combined-cycle combustion turbine facilities. These will power Meta’s new data center in Richland Parish. Two turbines will be near Richland. One will be at Entergy’s Waterford site in St. Charles Parish. All are set to start service by 2029. The order also allows new transmission lines. They will link Meta’s data center campus to the grid.
Gueydan Duck Festival Starts Today! The annual Duck Festival is now open in downtown Gueydan. It will run until Sunday, August 24. This year’s event includes live shows by The Beau Young Band, Kaleb Olivier and the Kinsmen, and Frank Foster. You can also enjoy dog trials, skeet shooting, cook-offs, and a carnival. Family Night is free on Thursday. You can buy carnival ride bracelets on site.
Brian Kelly Radio Show Launches Preseason Edition at TJ Ribs LSU football coach Brian Kelly made his media debut tonight on “The Brian Kelly Show.” It’s presented by Our Lady of the Lake Health and took place at TJ Ribs on South Acadian Thruway in Baton Rouge. Fans listened on the LSU Sports Radio Network or the LSU Sports app. Coach Kelly previewed the Tigers’ upcoming season and answered questions from attendees.
LA Tech Women’s Soccer to Host UL-Lafayette Tonight At 7 p.m. CT, Louisiana Tech’s women’s soccer team (0-1-1) hosts the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-0-0) at Robert Mack Caruthers Field in Ruston. The Bulldogs want their first win after a 1–1 draw at home. On the other hand, UL-Lafayette began the year with a 4–1 win against Lamar.
