Sony Hikes PlayStation 5 Prices in U.S. by $50, Effective Aug. 21

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on August 20 that it will raise the suggested retail prices of all PlayStation 5 console models in the U.S. by $50. The new prices take effect on Thursday, August 21.
Under the revised structure:
- PlayStation 5 (disc edition) will increase from $499.99 to $549.99.
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will jump from $449.99 to $499.99.
- PlayStation 5 Pro will rise from $699.99 to $749.99.
Sony said in a blog post, “Like many global companies, we are navigating a tough economy.” So, we’ve decided to raise the suggested retail price for the PS5 in the U.S. Starting August 21. The price adjustment is for consoles only. PS5 accessories, such as controllers, headsets, and PlayStation Portal, will stay at their current prices.
Analysts point out that U.S. tariffs on electronics from China and Japan have driven up manufacturing costs. This has led hardware makers to raise prices for consumers. Sony is boosting console prices this year, just like Microsoft and Nintendo. The video game industry is dealing with rising production costs and trade issues around the globe.
Sony stated that there won’t be more price changes in other regions for now. They also highlighted their efforts to diversify the supply chain to reduce tariff impacts.
