Chicago Bears Backup QB Tyson Bagent Emotional in Halas Hall Press Conference

Chicago, Ill., August 21, 2025 - After practice at Halas Hall, Chicago Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent spoke to the media. He shared his thoughts on his recent contract extension and talked about his family’s journey.
Bagent signed a two-year deal worth $10 million, with up to $16 million in incentives. He became emotional as he shared what this contract means for him and his loved ones. Fighting back tears, he shared, “My dad is my right-hand man. He didn’t even have running water until high school. There are so many people back home I can help now. It’s a weight off my family’s shoulders”.
The 25-year-old undrafted free agent from Shepherd University is grateful for the stability the extension offers. It helps him both on and off the field. ““It feels great to keep working with this coaching staff and support my family like never before,” Bagent said.
As the Bears get ready to end the preseason Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs, Bagent is focused on gaining the trust of head coach Ben Johnson and the offense. He completed 13 of 22 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown in Chicago’s big win over Buffalo. Now, he’s ready to play again in Kansas City.
General manager Ryan Poles captured the mood about Bagent’s extension: “We’re grateful to have a player who brings such dedication and heart to our team daily.”
Chicago will head to Arrowhead Stadium on Friday for its preseason finale. Bagent is set to lead multiple drives while Caleb Williams takes a break before the regular season opener.
