Panthers Practice Squad QB Jack Plummer Notes No Roster Changes on August 22, 2025.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - On Friday, August 22, the Carolina Panthers kept their quarterback depth chart the same. Jack Plummer remains on the practice squad with two weeks until the regular-season opener. Plummer, 25, signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL Draft. He has mostly backed up Bryce Young and Andy Dalton on the practice squad during the preseason.

Plummer played in all three preseason games. He completed 63.2% of his passes for 406 yards and two touchdowns. However, he wasn’t elevated to the active roster this week. He also missed Friday’s walkthrough and team meetings. Veteran Andy Dalton is healing from an elbow sprain he got in last week’s preseason finale against the Steelers. So, the Panthers decided to rest their starters. They relied on UFL MVP Bryce Perkins as the second-string quarterback during joint practices this week.

Head coach Dave Canales said no final roster decisions are made at quarterback. He prefers to carry just two quarterbacks on the initial 53-man roster. ““Jack’s done everything we’ve asked of him,” Canales said. ““He’s shown growth, but it’s a numbers game. Our focus this week is getting Bryce [Young] healthy and preparing for Jacksonville.”

Plummer will have few chances to show his progress in the next two weeks. Carolina is reducing the workload for starters and focusing on cutting the roster to 53 players by the August 26 deadline. His next chance to impress will be Saturday at the joint practice with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
