Patriots Shut Out in Preseason Finale, Fall 7-0 to Giants

East Rutherford, NJ (Aug. 22, 2025) – The New England Patriots ended their preseason on Thursday. They lost 7-0 to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. With starters out, the spotlight was on roster hopefuls. Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs barely played, and New England’s offense couldn’t put any points on the board.
A lone touchdown by Giants backup quarterback Jaxson Dart made the difference. He hit tight end George Dulcich with a 7-yard pass late in the first quarter. Dart completed 1 of 2 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. New England’s main quarterbacks had no offensive plays and went 0 for 4 on fourth down attempts.
Without their veteran playmakers, the Patriots leaned on fringe players to make their case for the 53-man roster. Wide receiver Eftton Chisum impressed with his speed in the slot. He made several tough catches that caught attention. Meanwhile, undrafted rookie cornerback Javon Baker intercepted a tipped pass but couldn’t spark the offense.
Defensively, New England’s backups shut out the Giants after their first score. They forced two punts and held New York to under 100 total yards outside that scoring drive. Linebacker Anthony Jennings made a sack while filling in. Safety Jaylinn Hawkins broke up two passes near the end of the game.
Head coach Jerod Mayo will make final cuts by next Tuesday. The preseason finale will be the last chance for bubble candidates on both sides of the ball. The Patriots begin their regular season on Sept. 7. They’ll take on the Miami Dolphins in Foxborough.
