Yankees Rally to Defeat Red Sox 9–6 in AL East Showdown

NEW YORK (August 21, 2025) - The New York Yankees ended the Boston Red Sox’s three-game winning streak with a 9–6 win tonight at Yankee Stadium. This victory kicks off their four-game AL East series.

Aaron Judge knocked in three runs with a two-run homer in the third. Then, Giancarlo Stanton hit a go-ahead solo shot in the fifth. New York scored five runs in the middle innings to pull ahead of a tough Boston team. The Red Sox put Lucas Giolito on the mound. They narrowed the gap twice, especially when Alex Bregman hit his 17th homer in the sixth. Still, they couldn’t match New York’s strong offense.

Lefty Luis Gil gave the Yankees six solid innings. He gave up three earned runs and struck out five. New York’s bullpen kept the lead safe with three scoreless frames. Lucas Giolito, in his 28th start, gave up six runs in 5⅓ innings. This left Boston at 68–60 for the season. The Yankees, on the other hand, moved to 70–57. They remain in the first AL wild-card spot, sitting 4½ games behind Toronto in the division.

Manager Aaron Boone praised his club’s timely hitting and depth from the mound. ““We got contributions all over the lineup tonight,” Boone said. ““Big swings from Judge and Stanton gave us the cushion we needed, and the pen shut the door.” Red Sox manager Alex Cora talked about missed chances. “We fought back twice, but we didn’t get enough hits when it counted,” he said.

The teams meet again Friday night at Yankee Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET. The series continues Saturday on MLB Network and concludes Sunday on ESPN.
