Scottie Scheffler Opens with a 6-Under 64 to Lead Tour Championship

ATLANTA (Aug. 21, 2025) - World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot a bogey-free 6-under-par 64 in the first round of the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club. This gave him a one-shot lead over Collin Morikawa as the FedExCup Playoffs wrap up.
Scheffler aims to be the first player to win back-to-back FedExCup titles since the playoff era began. He birdied five of his first eight holes. Then, he added two more birdies later and finished with four straight pars. ““I hit it really solid today and made some clutch putts,” Scheffler said. ““It’s always tough around here––you have to take advantage when you can.”
Morikawa, paired with Viktor Hovland in the second-to-last group, shot a 5-under 65. He made seven birdies and two bogeys, putting him alone in second place. Sahith Theegala is in third place with a 4-under 66. Russell Henley, Adam Scott, and Xander Schauffele are tied for fourth at 3-under 67.
Although it was unseasonably warm at nearly 90°F with rising humidity, there were no delays. The whole field completed their first 18 holes under the sunny Atlanta sky. The Golf Channel and NBC will televise Friday’s second round from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
