Cubs Rally Past Angels 10–7 in Anaheim

ANAHEIM, CA - The Chicago Cubs made a thrilling comeback, beating the Los Angeles Angels 10–7 at Angel Stadium on Saturday night.
Chicago trailed 4–3 after four innings before erupting for seven runs over the next three frames. Right fielder Kyle Tucker sparked the game with a two-run homer in the first inning, putting the Cubs up 2–0. He finished with three RBIs that night. Nico Hoerner, the second baseman, got three hits, the most on the team. Seiya Suzuki, the designated hitter, and Pete Crow-Armstrong, the first baseman, both drove in two runs to help the team.
Starter Cade Horton (8–4, 3.05 ERA) had a solid outing, going five innings. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out six. After that, he left the game for the bullpen. Chicago’s relievers threw four shutout innings. However, closer Scott Stroman only converted one of two save chances. This followed a two-run rally by the Angels in the ninth.
Los Angeles starter Victor Mederos (0–2, 5.62 ERA) had command issues. He gave up five runs, four of which were earned, in four innings. The Angels scored three runs off the Cubs’ bullpen in the eighth. Taylor Ward hit a two-run single during that inning. However, the Angels couldn’t finish the comeback, even with 12 hits. Nolan Schanuel led with a 3-for-4 night, and Mike Trout added two doubles.
With the win, Chicago improves to 74–55 and inches within 6½ games of the division-leading Brewers. Los Angeles falls to 61–67, remaining fourth in the AL West. The series wraps up tomorrow afternoon. It features a matinee at Angel Stadium. RHP Javier Assad will face Anaheim’s Brent Honeywell Jr.nbsp;
