Veteran Punjabi Actor-Comedian Jaswinder Bhalla Passes Away at 65

Mohali, August 22, 2025 – Jaswinder Bhalla, the beloved Punjabi actor and comedian, has passed away. He was famous for his roles in films like Carry On Jatta and Jatt & Juliet. He died early Friday morning at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. He was 65 years old.
Medical reports say Bhalla had a brain stroke on Wednesday evening. He was rushed to Fortis Hospital after losing a lot of blood. Despite aggressive treatment, he breathed his last at 4:00 AM today. His passing was confirmed by his close friend and fellow Chhankata actor Balmukund Sharma.
News of Bhalla’s death sent shockwaves through the Punjabi film industry and his legion of fans. Social media was filled with condolences under hashtags like #JaswinderBhalla and #RIPJaswinderBhalla. Colleagues and fans remembered his unique comic timing and caring nature.
Born in 1960, Bhalla balanced dual careers in academia and entertainment. He was a professor and the head of Agricultural Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana. He retired in 2020 after a remarkable career. He first gained fame on screen with the satirical series Chhankata (1988). Then, he starred in over 30 Punjabi films. Bhalla is survived by his wife, Parmdeep; his son, actor Pukhraj; and his daughter, Ashpreet Kaur. The actor’s funeral will be on Saturday, August 23, at noon. It will take place at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali. Family, friends, and industry peers will come to pay their last respects.
