Pickett Fire Near Calistoga Doubles Overnight, Zero Containment as Evacuations Continue

CALISTOGA, Calif., Aug. 22, 2025 - Firefighters in Napa County fought the quickly spreading Pickett Fire. It grew overnight, now covering 2,133 acres and 0% contained as of Friday morning.
Division Chief Ryan Isham noted that the cooler, humid nights helped crews use water-dropping aircraft effectively. Still, activity is expected to ramp up as temperatures go up. ““We’ve used water-dropping planes to fight the fire all night. We’ve also attacked the fire directly when we could,” Isham said.
Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit deployed about 350 personnel overnight. On Friday, they will add 75 engines, 8 hand crews, 15 bulldozers, and 10 water tenders. Many air tankers and helicopters will also join the effort. This brings the total to around 435 personnel./strong>.
Evacuation orders remain in effect for:
- Zone E120: - North of Silverado Trail - South of Pickett Road - East of Rosedale Road - West of Pickett Road
- Zone E121B-north of Clover Flat Road, west of Ditch Henry Road
- Zone E114 is located: - North of Pickett Road - South of Old Lawley Toll Road - East of Palisades Road - West of Dutch Henry Canyon Road
Evacuation warnings remain for zones E115, E121A, E122, and E-002B. Residents can check their zone and find shelter info at protect.genasys.com.
The blaze began just before 3 p.m. Thursday near Kenefick Ranch Vineyard and Winery on Pickett Road. It remains uncontained as officials work to find its cause.
