PSG Edges Angers 1-0 on Opening Night of Ligue 1 season

Paris, August 22, 2025 – Paris Saint-Germain opened their 2025–26 Ligue 1 season by edging out Angers 1–0 at the Parc des Princes. The hosts are now 1–0–0 with three points. Angers didn’t score in Paris but impressed fans with their strong defense.

Midfielder Fabián Ruiz made a big impact early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, he scored from the edge of the box, breaking the tie. PSG had the ball most of the game. They struggled to break through Angers’ tight defense. Finally, Ruiz’s powerful shot got past goalkeeper Herbert Koffi. Les Parisiens finished the match strong, not giving up any goals. The visitors had a few chances late, but they couldn’t score.

Luis Enrique chose a strong starting XI. Lucas Chevalier was in goal. The defense included Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos (captain), Willian Pacho, and Nuno Mendes. In midfield, João Neves, Vitinha, and Ruiz played together. Up front, Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, and Bradley Barcola formed the attack. Angers’ manager, Alexandre Dujeux, used a 3–5–2 formation with captain Halim Belkebla. However, they couldn’t get past Chevalier, the PSG goalkeeper.

With the win, PSG makes a strong title statement. They rise to the top of the table and wait for the rest of the matchday’s games. Angers, while disappointed, can take heart from their tough defense. They’ll aim to bounce back when they host Stade Rennais next weekend.
