Giants’ DeVito Shines in Preseason Finale, Faces Roster Bubble

New York, Aug. 22, 2025 - In what could be his last chance in Giants blue, quarterback Tommy DeVito shined Thursday night against the New England Patriots. Still, he’s on the brink of final roster cuts.
DeVito stepped onto the field at MetLife Stadium to loud cheers. He quickly led three touchdown drives, completing 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and three touchdowns. His efficient play revitalized a Giants offense that had struggled throughout the preseason.
““It was a lot of fun,” DeVito said after the 28–17 victory. ““It’s been a while since I’ve had a chance to go in and play…having a bit more time on the field felt great”.
NFL teams must cut their rosters from 90 to 53 players by Aug. 26. DeVito, the fourth quarterback on the depth chart, knows that uncertainty hangs over every snap. ““I think about that every time I step onto the field, since you never know when it could be your last,” he explained. ““I put everything into each opportunity because you never know when it might end”.
The undrafted 27-year-old wrapped up the preseason by completing 30 out of 38 passes. He racked up 323 yards, threw three touchdowns, and had one interception. His passer rating stood at 121.2. DeVito’s spot on the roster is in doubt with Russell Wilson, Jaxson Dart, and Jameis Winston ahead of him.
Teams may want to trade for Winston, according to reports. This could change how DeVito is viewed. If no deal happens, the Giants might put him on waivers. If he clears, he could return to New York’s practice squad or sign with another team.
““I haven’t spent too much time contemplating that possibility,” DeVito noted. ““Right now, this is where I am and that’s what I intend to focus on each day”.
