Al-Ahli Edge Al-Nassr on Penalties in Saudi Super Cup Final

Al-Ahli won the 2025 Saudi Super Cup by beating Al-Nassr 5-3 in a penalty shootout. The match ended in a 2-2 draw after regulation time. This exciting game took place at Hong Kong Stadium on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
Cristiano Ronaldo put Al-Nassr ahead in the 41st minute. He scored a penalty after Ali Majrashi handled the ball in the box. Just before halftime, Franck Kessié brought Al-Ahli level. He curled a shot from the edge of the area. In the 82nd minute, Marcelo Brozović regained Al-Nassr’s lead. He seized on a defensive slip and curled the ball into the top corner. Roger Ibáñez scored a last-minute header from a Riyad Mahrez corner. This tied the game and sent it to penalties. Al-Ahli had been behind twice in the match.
Edouard Mendy was the hero tonight. He saved Abdullah Al-Khaibari’s penalty and helped Al-Ahli win. Mendy frustrated Al-Nassr all match. He made key saves, like stopping a strong overhead shot from Ronaldo in the first half.
Ronaldo scored his 100th goal for Al-Nassr, even in defeat. This made him the first player ever to score over 100 goals for five teams: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Portugal, and now Al-Nassr. The 40-year-old has yet to win a major trophy in Saudi Arabia. He has now lost three domestic finals since he arrived in December 2022.
Al-Nassr will regroup and focus on the Saudi Pro League. They play Al-Taawoun on August 29.
