Chargers Rookie QB DJ Uiagalelei Tosses First Preseason Touchdown

Los Angeles, CA - In a preseason game on August 24, 2025, rookie QB DJ Uiagalelei threw his first career touchdown pass against the San Francisco 49ers. Uiagalelei, an undrafted free agent this offseason, hit wide receiver Oronde Gadsden II with a 25-yard pass. This gave the Chargers a 10–6 lead early in the second quarter.

The touchdown happened with 5:41 left in the half. Uiagalelei rolled right and hit Gadsden II in stride along the sideline. It marked a milestone for the young passer, who is competing for a spot on Los Angeles’ 53-man roster.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh praised Uiagalelei’s poise after the game. He said the rookie “showed great composure under pressure” and “executed the play exactly as drawn.” The Chargers will conclude their preseason slate next week before final roster cuts.
