Szmyt’s 37-Yard Field Goal Lifts Browns to 19-17 Preseason Win over Rams

CLEVELAND, Aug. 23, 2025 – Andre Szmyt kicked a 37-yard field goal as time ran out. This gave the Cleveland Browns a 19-17 win over the Los Angeles Rams in their preseason finale at Huntington Bank Field.
In the fourth quarter, Jordan Waters broke a 17-16 Rams lead with a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:08 remaining. Cleveland responded strongly with a six-play, 46-yard drive. Szmyt’s kick won the game and kept the Browns at a perfect 4-0 in the preseason.
Joe Flacco started and hit 9 of 10 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. QB Tyler Huntley came in after Shedeur Sanders had a tough start. Dillon Gabriel, the Browns’ third-round rookie, stood out again while replacing Flacco. He’s likely the backup now. On the other hand, Sanders had a tough time. He failed to get a first down in five second-half series, earning only nine net yards.
The game had a downside. Reports say starting center Ethan Pocic hurt his knee and left with a brace. Now, his status for Week 1 is uncertain. With the regular season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks away, Cleveland’s coaching staff will look at the health of its veterans. They’ll also assess how the quarterbacks are performing as roster cuts get closer.
