Cowboys Close Preseason with 31–13 Victory Over Falcons

ARLINGTON, Texas (Aug. 23, 2025) - The Dallas Cowboys finished their 2025 NFL Preseason with a solid 31–13 victory against the Atlanta Falcons at AT&T Stadium. The win, driven by a strong offense and solid play from key backups, gives Dallas a boost as they shift to the regular season.
Dallas built an early lead behind contributions from both passing and rushing units. Third-string quarterback Joe Milton II made his mark with two touchdown passes. One was a 23-yard strike to rookie running back Jaydon Blue. The play was a trick that surprised the Falcons’ defense. Backup running back Malik Davis rushed for 62 yards on 14 carries. He kept finding ways to gain yards between the tackles.
The Cowboys’ backups, led by second-year edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku, got three sacks and forced two turnovers. Linebacker Mazi Smith made a great tackle to stop a Falcons’ scoring drive late in the third quarter. The Falcons got their only touchdown with a long drive in the second quarter. But Dallas’ reserves stopped any Atlanta momentum. Cornerback Shavon Revel recovered a fumble early in the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys wrapped up preseason with a 1–2 record. Still, they feel good about the depth in several position groups. Head coach Mike McCarthy praised the “next-man-up mentality.” He noted that many young players are now in the running for final roster spots.
Dallas opens the regular season on Sept. 4 in Philadelphia. The full 53-man roster and starting lineup will be shared after the roster cutdown on Wednesday.
