Inter Miami Edges D.C. United with 94th-Minute Stunner

Washington, D.C. (August 23, 2025) – In a dramatic late twist at Audi Field, Inter Miami CF secured a 1-0 victory over D.C. United courtesy of a stoppage-time strike from replacement forward Leonardo Campana.

Campana, fresh on the field, seized a well-timed through-ball. He fired in a goal from 12 yards in the 94th minute. The assist came from veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets. The goal broke Miami’s frustration with a tough United defense. It pushed Inter Miami’s unbeaten streak to eight MLS matches.

D.C. United started strong with midfielder Jacob Murrell, creating some half-chances. But Inter Miami’s goalkeeper, Drake Callender, stayed calm for most of the game. He made two key saves in the second half. Miami controlled the ball for most of the match and put pressure on United’s keeper, Alex Bono. A key moment came in the 67th minute when Lionel Messi took a free-kick that struck the crossbar and went out.

Inter Miami set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation. Rodrigo De Paul led from midfield with Busquets by his side. Messi and Luis Suárez played just behind the lone striker, Campana. D.C. United lined up in a 4-3-3 formation. Christian Benteke led the attack, and Jackson Hopkins was on the wings. But in stoppage time, Campana took advantage and scored, catching them off guard.

The three points boost Inter Miami to 48, placing them fourth in the Eastern Conference. This also helps them stay in the race for MLS playoffs. D.C. United, who remain bottom of the East with 20 points, will look to regroup when they visit CF Montréal next Saturday.
