Mercer Football News – August 24, 2025

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer University Bears football program opened the 2025 season on Saturday night, falling 7–0 at UC Davis in the FCS Kickoff Classic at Montgomery’s Cramton Bowl. The Bears shut out the Aggies for three quarters. Still, they struggled on offense and finished with just 197 total yards.

Head coach Mike Jacobs gave a nod to his defense’s strong play. However, he pointed out that the offense must step up. ““Our guys showed grit against a top‐10 opponent,” Jacobs said. ““Now we’ll turn our focus to polishing our play‐calling and execution this week.”

Mercer (0–1) returns to Five Star Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 30, to face Presbyterian College in its home opener. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

  • Aug. 30 vs. Presbyterian, 6 p.m. (Home – Five Star Stadium, Macon)
  • Sept. 13 vs. Wofford, 6 p.m. (Home)
  • Sept. 20 at The Citadel, 2 p.m. (Away)
