Shilo Sanders Ejected from Buccaneers Preseason Finale After On-Field Altercation

TAMPA, Fla. - In a shocking moment during the Buccaneers’ last preseason game versus the Bills, safety Shilo Sanders was ejected. He threw a punch at Bills tight end Zach Davidson.
Sanders, an undrafted rookie and the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, went up against Davidson. After the whistle, he swung at the helmet of the Bills veteran. Officials flagged Sanders for unnecessary roughness right away. They took him off the field midway through the second quarter.
Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles expressed his disappointment postgame. ““We can’t have that on the field,” Bowles said. ““Shilo’s got to control himself. It was his last shot to show what he can do this summer, and that’s not the way to do it.”
Sanders joined the preseason to earn a place on Tampa Bay’s 53-man roster or practice squad. In three exhibition contests, he made just three tackles. Analysts had mixed reviews. They praised his aggression but pointed out issues in coverage and tackling. Saturday’s ejection nearly ended his chance to stay with the team. Roster decisions will be finalized later this week.
