Connecticut Sun Surge Past Chicago Sky 82-80 in Overtime Thriller

Chicago, IL - August 23, 2025 - In a thrilling finish at Wintrust Arena, the Connecticut Sun beat the Chicago Sky 82-80. They rallied in the last seconds to end their five-game losing streak.
Marina Mabrey scored a game-high 24 points, hitting 9 of 13 shots. She was 5 of 7 from three-point range. With under 10 seconds left, she nailed a clutch three to secure the lead for the Sun. Tina Charles scored 18 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. This is her 19th double-double of the season. Aaliyah Edwards brought energy off the bench with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Leïla Lacan also contributed 14 points and 5 assists.
Angel Reese topped the Sky with 22 points and 11 rebounds. This marked her fifth double-double of the year. Rookie Kamilla Cardoso added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Even with Reese’s strong play in the paint, Chicago had a hard time stopping Connecticut’s scoring late in the game. They missed two crucial defensive stops on the final possession.
Both teams won’t make the playoffs. Still, the Sun’s exciting win gives them a boost as they wrap up the season at 9–27. The Sky, now 10–26, aim to regroup in their last two games. They want to focus on their young core, led by Reese and Cardoso.
