Australia Torch South Africa with Record-Breaking 431 in Third ODI

MACKAY, Aug. 24, 2025 – Australia showcased their batting skills on Sunday. They scored a huge 431 for 2 in the third One Day International against South Africa at Great Barrier Reef Arena.

The hosts won the toss and chose to bat. They raced to a remarkable 250-run opening stand, thanks to Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh. Head scored 142 runs off 103 balls. He hit 17 fours and five sixes. Marsh added a steady 100 runs from 106 balls.

Cameron Green took the lead, hitting an unbeaten 118 in only 55 balls. With eight sixes, he boosted Australia to their second-highest ODI total ever. Alex Carey scored 50 not out. This helped all four top-order batsmen get half-centuries. Australia’s 431/2 overshadows the Proteas’ bowling issues. Kagiso Rabada is out due to injury, and Lungi Ngidi is rested for the final match.

South Africa’s chase started poorly. They fell to 84 for 4 in 11.5 overs. This was due to sharp bowling from Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis. The Proteas now face a steep climb to avoid a series whitewash after defeats in the opening two matches.

Play resumes tomorrow. South Africa aims to break Australia’s hold and regain pride from the tour.
