Comet 3I/ATLAS Brightens to Magnitude 14.45, Visible in Libra on August 25, 2025

Paris, August 25, 2025 - Astronomers tracking the interstellar visitor 3I/ATLAS reported today that the comet reached an apparent visual magnitude of 14.45 while traversing the constellation Libra. At 15:48 UTC, 3I/ATLAS was positioned at right ascension 15h 48m 24s and declination -15° 20′ 45”, moving along its hyperbolic trajectory through the inner Solar System.

Observers noted that, despite its faintness, 3I/ATLAS’s increasing activity continues to drive the development of a diffuse coma. Dedicated amateur and professional telescope networks, including those contributing to the Comet Observers Database, are capturing the evolving morphology of the dust envelope as solar heating intensifies the sublimation of volatile ices.

With perihelion scheduled for October 29, 2025, at a distance of 1.36 AU from the Sun, 3I/ATLAS is expected to brighten further, although its proximity to the Sun will soon make direct observation challenging. Skywatchers are encouraged to consult updated ephemerides and finder charts for optimal viewing opportunities before solar conjunction later this autumn.
