Belinda Clark Elevated to Sport Australia Hall of Fame Legend

MELBOURNE, August 25, 2025 - Cricket icon Belinda Clark AO has been named a Legend of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, becoming the first female cricketer to receive this prestigious distinction.

Belinda Clark’s elevation to Legend status was announced today, marking her as the 53rd individual-and the first woman in cricket-to join the exclusive ranks since the program’s inception in 1993. The announcement coincides with the 2025 Sport Australia Hall of Fame inductions, which will be formally celebrated at the Hall of Fame Awards Gala Dinner on November 17 in Melbourne.

Clark’s storied career includes captaining Australia in 101 One Day Internationals, leading her team to two World Cup victories, and amassing over 5,700 international runs across 118 ODIs and 15 Tests. She made history at the 1997 Women’s World Cup with an unbeaten 229 against Denmark-the first double century in any ODI-and her leadership and dynamic batting style helped elevate women’s cricket to new heights.

Upon learning of her Legend induction, Clark expressed deep gratitude and highlighted the team effort behind her success: > “It’s an unbelievable honour to be elevated to Legend status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. I am experiencing a combination of surprise, gratitude and pride… I hope my teammates, along with the coaches, support staff and administration, feel included in this recognition. Professionally, I am proud of where the sport is going. It is setting the pace in the ambition to be equitable and whilst there is still a way to go, I am bullish about the future.”

Belinda joins basketball great Andrew Gaze as the 52nd and 53rd Legends inducted this year, alongside luminaries such as Sir Donald Bradman, Dawn Fraser, Cathy Freeman, and Ian Thorpe. The dual announcement underscores the depth of Australia’s sporting heritage and the ongoing pursuit of excellence across disciplines.
