University of Colorado Boulder Issues Campus-Wide Shelter-in-Place

BOULDER, Colo. (August 25, 2025) - The University of Colorado Boulder activated a campus-wide shelter-in-place alert Monday evening after an unspecified incident was reported near Norlin Library on the northwest side of campus.
At 4:54 p.m., CU Boulder’s emergency notification system sent an alert to students, faculty and staff advising all campus community members to “shelter in place” and avoid the area while emergency personnel responded to the scene. Norlin Library is located just west of Muenzinger Auditorium and Folsom Field, and south of Pleasant Street.
University officials have not released further details regarding the nature of the incident. Law enforcement and campus safety officers remain on site conducting an active response and investigation. Campus operations elsewhere continued as normal, though several nearby buildings were temporarily locked down as a precaution.
CU Boulder’s Office of Emergency Management urged anyone on campus to monitor official university communication channels for updates and to comply immediately with any further safety instructions. This remains a developing story; the university will provide additional information as it becomes available.
