Farmers Insurance Data Breach Spurs Two New Class-Action Investigations

NEWTOWN, Pa./PITTSBURGH, Aug. 25, 2025 - Two national plaintiff firms announced separate probes today into the May 2025 data breach at Farmers Insurance Exchange and its management arm, Farmers Group, Inc.

Farmers first disclosed on May 30 that a third-party vendor detected unauthorized access of its customer database on May 29, potentially exposing names, addresses, dates of birth, driver’s license numbers and partial Social Security numbers for more than one million policyholders.

Edelson Lechtzin LLP Launches Privacy Claims Investigation

Edelson Lechtzin LLP (Newtown, Pa.) issued a press release this morning stating it is investigating data-privacy claims on behalf of Farmers Insurance Exchange and Farmers Group, Inc. customers whose information “may have been compromised” in the incident. The firm plans to evaluate whether Farmers failed to safeguard consumer data and to assess possible remedies under state and federal privacy laws. Marc H. Edelson, managing partner, encouraged affected policyholders to contact the firm for a confidential case evaluation.

Lynch Carpenter LLP Opens Parallel Litigation Inquiry

Separately, Lynch Carpenter LLP (Pittsburgh) announced its own investigation into the same breach. The firm said it is examining potential class-action claims against Farmers Insurance Exchange, focusing on the insurer’s legal obligations under data-security statutes and the financial harm suffered by consumers. Lynch Carpenter noted it represents data-privacy plaintiffs nationwide and invites those who received a breach notification from Farmers to submit their information for attorney review.

Both firms pointed insurance customers to their websites and dedicated phone lines for confidential consultations. Farmers Insurance has offered 24 months of complimentary credit-monitoring services to affected individuals, with enrollment instructions included in mailed breach notifications issued on August 22.
