Federal Holidays Update: Five Remain in 2025

Washington, D.C., August 25, 2025 - As summer vacation winds down and Americans prepare for the start of the school year and the return to regular business schedules, the United States has already observed six of its eleven federal holidays in 2025. According to a report by USA TODAY, the holidays celebrated so far include New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth National Independence Day, and Independence Day.
With six holidays behind us, there are five federal holidays still to come before the year ends. The remaining observances are:
- Labor Day - Monday, September 1, 2025
- Columbus Day - Monday, October 13, 2025
- Veterans Day - Tuesday, November 11, 2025
- Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, November 27, 2025
- Christmas Day - Thursday, December 25, 2025.
Labor Day, marking the unofficial end of summer for many Americans, arrives in just one week. Following that, the holiday calendar moves steadily toward the holiday season, with Thanksgiving and Christmas serving as the year’s culminating federal observances. Holiday closures affect federal offices, the U.S. Postal Service, financial markets, and many private-sector businesses nationwide.
