Flash Flood Watches Issued Across Southwest on August 25, 2025

CARSON CITY, Nev. (Aug. 25, 2025) - The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of western Nevada and far eastern California, and a separate Flash Flood (Flood) Watch for north-central Arizona, as monsoonal moisture and scattered thunderstorms raise the threat of rapid-onset flooding.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Monday for western Nevada and adjacent California counties, where heavy rain may produce life-threatening flash flooding. Areas covered include greater Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley; the Lake Tahoe Basin; Washoe County; southern Lyon and Mineral counties; and California’s Lassen, eastern Plumas, eastern Sierra and Mono counties. Forecasters warn that excessive runoff could inundate rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying and urban areas, and burn-scar zones such as the Davis, Conner, Bear, Mill, Inn and Tamarack scars. Residents are urged to monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action if warnings are issued.
Meanwhile, north-central Arizona remains under a Flood Watch-highlighting the risk of flash flooding through Tuesday evening-as afternoon and evening thunderstorms capable of producing periods of heavy rainfall are expected to continue. This watch covers the Kaibab Plateau, Grand Canyon Country, and Marble and Glen Canyons, including the Dragon Bravo and White Sage fire burn scars. Heavy downpours may trigger dangerous flood currents in normally dry washes, side canyons and low-water crossings.
Precautionary measures:
- Never drive through flooded roadways-Turn around, don’t drown.
- Monitor NOAA Weather Radio or the NWS website for updates.
- If flash flooding appears imminent, move to higher ground and follow local evacuation instructions.
- Those planning outdoor recreation in burn-scar areas should reassess plans and stay informed of rapidly changing conditions.
Communities across the region are advised to stay alert through tonight and into Tuesday as monsoon moisture continues to fuel the potential for localized flooding and rapid rises in normally dry channels. Emergency management agencies remain on standby to respond to flood-related incidents.
