Powerball Ticket Price Holds Steady at $2 Amid Lottery Industry Shake-Up

August 25, 2025 - In the wake of sweeping changes by Mega Millions and other multi-state lotteries, Powerball officials confirmed today that the cost of a standard Powerball ticket remains unchanged at $2 per play.

Despite widespread speculation that Powerball might follow Mega Millions in raising its base price, the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) emphasized its commitment to maintaining affordability for players. “We have no plans to alter the established $2 ticket price,” said MUSL spokesperson Karen Blake. “Our focus continues to be on delivering the premier jackpot experience without increasing the barrier to entry.”

Powerball players can still add the Power Play® add-on for an extra $1 per play to multiply non-jackpot winnings by up to 10x, and the Double Play® option remains available for an additional $1 for a second drawing chance.

The announcement comes after the Mega Millions consortium more than doubled its ticket price to $5 in April 2025, a move accompanied by enhanced starting jackpots and improved odds, in hopes of generating bigger prize pools and renewed player interest. By contrast, Powerball’s stable pricing model has helped sustain steady sales and public confidence, even as jackpots continue to climb into the high hundreds of millions.

Today’s confirmation cements Powerball’s place as the nation’s most accessible jackpot game, with drawings every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings and overall odds of winning any prize standing at 1 in 24.9.
