Baltimore Comedian Reginald Carroll Dies After Mississippi Shooting

Southaven, Mississippi, August 25, 2025 - Baltimore-born stand-up comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, 52, succumbed to gunshot injuries sustained in Southaven on August 20, the Southaven Police Department confirmed today.

One male suspect was taken into custody Saturday and charged with Carroll’s murder, police said in a social media statement. “One male is in custody and has been charged with the murder of Reginald Carroll. Our thoughts [are] with the family of Mr. Carroll… Thank you to the community for their patience and understanding,” the department added.

Carroll was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds on Burton Lane. Despite “life-saving techniques,” first responders were unable to revive him, authorities reported. The investigation remains ongoing.

His brother, Jonathan Carroll, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of condolences. “To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received, thank you!!!” he posted on Facebook.

Carroll-nicknamed the “Knockout King of Comedy”-built a national profile through club tours and television appearances. He performed on Showtime at the Apollo in 2000 and had a recurring role on UPN’s The Parkers alongside Mo’Nique and Countess Vaughn. In 2022, he starred in the TV movie Rent & Go and in 2023 produced the stand-up special Knockout Kings of Comedy.

Tributes poured in across social media. Baltimore’s Mobtown Comedy Club honored Carroll on Instagram: > “Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”

Academy Award winner Mo’Nique also paid homage, recalling their time touring together and celebrating Carroll’s fearless humor.
