Sac State Kicks Off Fall Semester with Instruction, Celebrations, and Work-Study Launch

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug. 25, 2025 - California State University, Sacramento marked the official start of its Fall 2025 semester today, with classes commencing across campus, special student events welcoming returning and new Hornets, and the Federal Work-Study program opening for all hired participants.

The first day of fall instruction began campus-wide Monday, initiating the period of late registration and schedule adjustments, which will run through Sept. 5. Students returned to classrooms for lectures, labs, and seminars offered by the Colleges of Arts & Letters, Natural Sciences & Mathematics, Social Sciences & Interdisciplinary Studies, and Engineering & Computer Science.

In the Library Quad at 11 a.m., the Jewish Student Union and Hillel hosted “Shalom Sac State,” a bagel brunch event designed to welcome students back to campus with cream cheese spreads, community-building activities, and resources for Jewish life on campus. Similar Hornet Welcome events and college-level convocation ceremonies are scheduled throughout the week to foster connections among first-year, transfer, and continuing students.

Meanwhile, the Federal Work-Study program officially opened for FWS-hired students to begin employment on campus or with partner community organizations. Eligible students may now report to their assigned positions to earn funds for tuition and gain practical work experience in alignment with their academic studies.

The Fall 2025 semester at Sac State continues with a full schedule of academic deadlines, student orientations, and campus life programming. Key upcoming dates include the census date on Sept. 22 and the last day to withdraw on Nov. 14.
