Taylor Townsend Set for US Open Singles Opener Today

NEW YORK - American left-hander Taylor Townsend, the reigning doubles world No. 1, is scheduled to make her opening-round appearance in the women’s singles draw of the 2025 US Open today, Monday, August 25. She will face Croat Antonia Ružić on Court 11 at 9:40 a.m. ET, with live coverage beginning at 9:00 a.m. on ESPN in the U.S. and Sky Sports Tennis in the U.K.

Townsend, who clinched the WTA doubles No. 1 ranking after winning the Citi DC Open alongside Zhang Shuai in July, enters the match ranked 139th in singles. Her opponent, 22-year-old Ružić, is making her debut in a Grand Slam main draw after a breakout season that included a quarter-final run in Monterrey and victories over seeded players such as Anastasia Pavlychenkova.

A win today would see Townsend advance to face 25th seed Jeļena Ostapenko or qualifier Wang Xiyu in the second round. With her powerful lefty serve and aggressive all-court game, Townsend will be aiming to translate the confidence from her recent doubles success into her singles campaign at Flushing Meadows.
