Trey Gowdy Spotlights Fiction Debut on Podcast Ahead of Book Release

Aug. 25, 2025 - In a special episode released Monday, former congressman and Fox News host Trey Gowdy appeared on the FOX True Crime Podcast to discuss his forthcoming legal thriller, The Color of Death, which hits shelves tomorrow, Aug. 26.
Gowdy sat down with host Emily Compagno to share the origins of his first novel, co-authored with Christopher Greyson, and to offer listeners “a rare window into how the pursuit of justice doesn’t end with the verdict”. Drawing on his years as a state and federal prosecutor, he revealed that the book’s protagonist, Assistant District Attorney Colm Truesdale, was inspired by cases that left a lasting imprint on his own career.
“The thing that fascinated me most,” Gowdy told Compagno, “is how the fear, anger and loss of innocence that victims endure follow them-and the people who fight for them-long after the courtroom lights have dimmed.” He went on to describe the novel’s blend of procedural detail and psychological depth, promising readers “a cat-and-mouse dynamic that keeps you guessing until the very last page.”
The Color of Death-which traces a complex small-town murder investigation set against the Southern landscape-marks the 16th title from FOX News Books and is slated for wide release on Tuesday. The book follows Gowdy’s transition from lawmaker and prosecutor to storyteller, adding “novelist” to his résumé as a New York Times bestselling author.
Listeners can stream the full interview on the FOX True Crime Podcast or access it via major podcast platforms. The Color of Death will be available in hardcover, e-book and audiobook formats starting Aug. 26.
