Devon Walker Exits Saturday Night Live After Three Seasons

NEW YORK, August 26, 2025 - Comedian Devon Walker has announced he will depart Saturday Night Live ahead of the show’s 51st season, revealing mixed reflections on his tenure in a candid social media post.
Walker, 34, shared an Instagram update on Monday under the caption “me and baby broke up ❤️,” likening his time on the NBC sketch series to “a series of brief marriages.” He wrote that though he and SNL “spent three years together, and at times it was truly enjoyable,” other moments were “incredibly toxic,” yet he remains grateful for the creative bonds formed behind the scenes.
“Some of them endure for quite a while if we’re fortunate, but most are transient,” Walker continued. “They seem permanent until they’re not. That’s the reality. You understand what you’re signing up for.” He paid particular tribute to writers Gary Richardson and Alex English, with whom he “transitioned from running a bar show to collaborating at 30 Rock,” calling the journey “wonderful”.
Walker’s announcement arrives amid broader shake-ups for SNL. Creator Lorne Michaels recently hinted at significant cast changes for Season 51, set to premiere October 4, 2025. Michaels told Puck News that he feels “the pressure to innovate” following the milestone 50th season and promised that details would emerge in the coming week.
Although Walker did not clarify whether his exit was voluntary, he lightheartedly questioned, “Wait…did he quit or did he get fired?” He also teased upcoming plans, noting he is “about to head to Japan” and hopes to pursue a “prestige drama,” ideally alongside Julianne Moore, upon his return.
As the first cast member to announce departure ahead of the new season, Walker’s exit marks the start of what may be a more extensive reshuffling of the storied sketch show’s lineup.
