Eva Lys Cruises into Second Round at 2025 US Open

NEW YORK (Aug. 26, 2025) - German No. 59 Eva Lys overwhelmed qualifier Francesca Jones in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to book her place in the second round of the US Open at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Lys, appearing in her third Grand Slam main draw this year, displayed relentless baseline pressure and clinical serving throughout the contest. She converted 3 of 4 break-point opportunities and surrendered just three points on her first serve, never allowing Jones to find a foothold in the match.
The 23-year-old, who reached the fourth round of the Australian Open earlier this year as a lucky loser, required only 63 minutes to complete the double-bagel. Lys will next face American wild-card Brigid Rettenmaier for a spot in the third round.
“It felt great to come out with such intensity,” said Lys in her on-court interview. “I’ve been working hard on stepping in early and taking control of rallies, and today it all clicked.”
With the hard-courts of Flushing Meadows suiting her aggressive counterpunching style, Lys looks poised to extend her best Grand Slam result as she continues her breakthrough season.
