Breaking: Five People Shot at South L.A. Strip Mall; Sparks Host Mercury Tonight on Figueroa Street

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 26, 2025) -

At least five people were shot Tuesday afternoon at a strip mall near the intersection of Manchester Avenue and Figueroa Street in South Los Angeles, law enforcement officials said. The Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Division responded to gunfire around 2:30 p.m., setting up a large crime scene and cordoning off the area just north of Manchester at Figueroa Street. Victims were transported to a local hospital, and their conditions remain unknown. No arrests have been reported, and the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, downtown Los Angeles was bustling tonight as the Los Angeles Sparks hosted the Phoenix Mercury at Crypto.com Arena, located at 1111 S. Figueroa Street. The WNBA matchup tipped off at 7 p.m., drawing a sold-out crowd for one of the marquee games of the season. Fans were advised to plan for heavy traffic and arrive early due to increased security and downtown congestion.

Local authorities have urged anyone with information on the shooting to contact LAPD’s 77th Division or Crime Stoppers. Commuters traveling through the Figueroa corridor are advised to expect delays and follow official detours.
