Former NFL Quarterback Jay Cutler Pleads Guilty, Sentenced to Jail in DUI Case

NASHVILLE, Tenn., August 26, 2025 - Former NFL star Jay Cutler accepted a plea agreement Tuesday in a Williamson County courtroom, pleading guilty to a misdemeanor DUI stemming from an October 17, 2024, traffic collision in Franklin, Tenn. In exchange for dismissing a related weapon possession charge, Cutler was sentenced to four days in jail, a $350 fine, and one year of supervised probation.

Cutler, 42, was accused of rear-ending another vehicle last fall and exhibiting signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, when law enforcement arrived on the scene. Police also discovered a rifle and a loaded handgun in his vehicle’s console. Under the terms of the plea deal, Cutler’s Tennessee driver’s license has been revoked and he must complete a state-approved DUI safety course.

The brief jail term, which Cutler will serve beginning in late September, marks a legal resolution to charges that included failure to exercise due care and violation of implied consent laws. Prosecutors agreed to drop all charges except the single DUI count following Cutler’s admission of guilt.

Cutler, who enjoyed a 12-season NFL career with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins from 2006 to 2017, has not publicly commented on the plea agreement. His attorney has made no statement as of press time.
