Trailer Debuts for Chloé Zhao’s “Hamnet,” Featuring Joe Alwyn as Bartholomew

London, August 26, 2025 - The first teaser trailer for director Chloé Zhao’s highly anticipated film Hamnet was unveiled today, spotlighting Joe Alwyn in a supporting role as Bartholomew. Adapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s bestselling 2020 novel, Hamnet reimagines the real-life tragedy that inspired Shakespeare’s classic Hamlet.
In the trailer, audiences glimpse Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare opposite Jessie Buckley’s Agnes, with Jacobi Jupe portraying the couple’s 11-year-old son, Hamnet. Joe Alwyn appears in scenes alongside Emily Watson and David Wilmot, embodying Bartholomew, a role that deepens the film’s exploration of family bonds and grief.
Focus Features will release Hamnet in a limited theatrical run beginning November 27, before expanding nationwide on December 12. The film is slated to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, marking Zhao’s first project following her 2021 Best Director Oscar win for Nomadland.
