Kathleen Turner Shines at “The Roses” Premiere in New York City

NEW YORK CITY, Aug. 26, 2025 - Veteran actress Kathleen Turner made a rare red-carpet appearance on Monday night to support the premiere of The Roses, a modern remake of her 1989 dark comedy classic The War of the Roses. Turner, 71, arrived at Manhattan’s Hudson Theatre in a classic black frock and matching sandals, drawing enthusiastic applause from fans and photographers alike.

The new film stars Olivia Colman as Ivy Rose and Benedict Cumberbatch as her architect husband, Theo Rose. Turner, who originated the role of Barbara Rose opposite Michael Douglas in the original, joined the remake’s leading duo for several on-carpet interviews, praising the fresh take on marital warfare while offering a cheeky prediction for the remake’s ending.

Turner outlined her excitement for the project: “It’s wonderful to see this story told through new eyes-Olivia and Benedict bring such depth and mischief to their roles. I can’t wait to see how audiences react to their ending!” The actress also reminisced about her longtime collaboration with Douglas-who posed with her for PEOPLE’s 50th-anniversary cover re-creation last year-and recalled the “electric tension” that fueled their original performances.

Following her appearance, Turner expressed optimism that The Roses will honor the spirit of the original while resonating with today’s viewers. The film is set to hit theaters nationwide on Friday, Aug. 29.
