Shooting in South Minneapolis Leaves One Dead and Several Injured

South Minneapolis, MN - A midday shooting Tuesday afternoon in south Minneapolis left one person dead and multiple others wounded, Minneapolis Police confirmed.

Officers responded at approximately 1:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire near East 29th Street and Clinton Avenue, just north of East Lake Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a group of victims on the sidewalk; one victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and several others were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara addressed the incident during a news briefing, stating that preliminary evidence indicates the shots originated from the north side of the block, closer to the Midtown Greenway. He urged community members with information to contact investigators, emphasizing, “We need the public’s help to identify both the suspect and the circumstances that led to this violence.”

Eyewitness Craig Lassig, who was inside the AutoZone at 2940 Clinton Avenue when the shooting began, described hearing rapid gunfire followed by panicked crowds fleeing the scene. “It sounded like rapid pops, then people were running everywhere,” Lassig recounted. He added that store employees sheltered two wounded individuals inside before police arrived.

No arrests have been made, and the suspect remains at large. Detectives continue to canvass the neighborhood for surveillance footage and are asking that anyone with information or video of the incident call the Minneapolis Police Department’s homicide tip line. Schools in the immediate area briefly locked down as a precaution but have since resumed normal operations.
