Police Investigate Mass Shooting in South Minneapolis

Minneapolis, Aug. 26, 2025 - Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday afternoon in south Minneapolis that left one person dead and multiple others wounded.

According to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara, officers were dispatched to the intersection of E. 29th Street and Clinton Avenue around 1:30 p.m. following reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and at least two others were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Witness Craig Lassig, who was inside an AutoZone store at 2940 Clinton Avenue, said he heard a barrage of shots and saw people fleeing the sidewalk. “It sounded like a machine gun,” Lassig told reporters. He recalled a man with apparent facial and arm wounds pounding on the store’s front window before employees let him inside.

Chief O’Hara stated that investigators believe the shooter approached from the north, near the Midtown Greenway, and opened fire on a group of individuals standing on the sidewalk. No suspects have been identified or taken into custody, and there is no known motive at this time.

Police have closed off the block surrounding the scene and are urging anyone with information or video footage of the incident to contact the Minneapolis Police Department. “We are committed to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice,” Chief O’Hara said.

This incident marks another surge in gun violence in Minneapolis this summer, following several high-profile shootings in recent weeks. Authorities have increased patrols and community outreach efforts in areas experiencing the highest rates of violent crime.
