Allison Janney’s New Film Debuts in France Today

PARIS, Aug. 27, 2025 - Allison Janney’s latest feature, Jay Roach’s comedy-drama The War of the Roses (French title: La Guerre des Roses), officially opens in French cinemas today, August 27, 2025. Janney co-stars alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman in this reinvention of the classic tale of marital discord and revenge, filmed on location in England and the United States.
Audiences in Paris, Lyon and Marseille can now experience Janney’s portrayal of Barbara Rose, a socialite whose marriage to Jonathan (Cumberbatch) spirals into chaos as the couple engages in increasingly extravagant pranks and courtroom battles. Critics have praised Janney’s ability to balance sharp comedy with genuine emotional depth, calling her “scene-stealing” in early festival screenings.
The War of the Roses marks Janney’s first theatrical release since her acclaimed supporting turn in Everything’s Going to Be Great, which enjoyed a limited U.S. release in June and was featured at the Tribeca Film Festival in May. Janney will embark on a promotional tour of France next week, including appearances at the Cannes Cinéphiles Club on September 1 and a Q&A session in Toulouse on September 3.
Upcoming U.S. release plans for The War of the Roses will be announced later this fall by Searchlight Pictures.
