KARE 11 News Report - Wednesday, August 27, 2025

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Aug. 27, 2025) - KARE 11 Sunrise brought viewers a mix of weather, community updates, and ongoing public safety developments across the Twin Cities and surrounding regions.

Morning Weather and State Fair Outlook A strong high-pressure system will hold temperatures in the Twin Cities metro between 60°F and 77°F today, with mostly sunny skies through the afternoon. Clouds this morning may trigger scattered thunderstorms later this evening, particularly outside the metro in areas such as Mankato and Brainerd. South winds will usher in the warmth as the Great Minnesota Get-Together continues at the State Fairgrounds.

Ongoing Manhunt for Mass Shooting Suspect Minneapolis Police continue to search for the individual who opened fire in broad daylight yesterday afternoon in South Minneapolis, killing one person and wounding six others near Cristo Rey Jesuit High School at 29th Street East and Clinton Avenue. Dash-cam footage shows the suspect fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle after using a high-velocity .223-caliber rifle. No arrests have been made, and officials urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

Second Shooting in Downtown Minneapolis Shortly after the mass shooting, a separate incident occurred less than a mile away at 8th Street North and Hennepin Avenue, resulting in one fatality and one injury. Police have not yet determined whether the two events are related but have increased patrols in affected neighborhoods as investigations continue.

Community Response and Safety Measures Neighbors in South Minneapolis described chaotic scenes as bystanders rendered aid to victims. Local businesses near the Cristo Rey campus provided water and first-aid assistance until paramedics arrived. Minneapolis Public Schools have reaffirmed safety protocols and increased security at all campuses citywide amid rising concerns.
