Bodyguard of Katt Williams Makes First Court Appearance in Reggie Carroll Murder Case

Southaven, Miss., August 27, 2025 - Tranell “Too Tall” Marquise Williams, a tour security guard for comedian Katt Williams, appeared in DeSoto County court today on a murder charge stemming from the fatal shooting of fellow comedian Reginald “Reggie” Carroll on August 20, 2025. Williams, 38, was arrested and booked at the Southaven Police Department on August 21, 2025, and has been held without bond on a Murder charge under Mississippi Code 97-3-19(1).

During the brief hearing, prosecutors confirmed that Williams is accused of fatally shooting Carroll at a property on Burton Lane - a site affiliated with Williams’s official merchandise company - while Carroll was touring with Katt Williams on the “Heaven on Earth” tour. No plea was entered, and the case was bound over for grand jury presentation.

Separately, the property management company for the Burton Lane building delivered a 14-day notice of eviction citing “criminal activity” at the site, which housed both Carroll during the shooting and Williams’s merchandise operation. Tenants have until September 3 to vacate the premises under the notice posted earlier this week.

Katt Williams has not issued a public statement regarding the shooting or today’s court proceedings. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to Carroll’s death, and a spokesperson for the DeSoto County District Attorney’s Office said additional hearings are expected in the coming months.
