Minneapolis Mayor Vows Support After School Shooting Tragedy

Minneapolis, MN (August 27, 2025) - Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey expressed profound sorrow and solidarity Wednesday following a fatal shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School that left multiple children dead and dozens injured. Speaking at a press briefing outside city hall, Frey condemned the “evil act” and assured residents that city officials are marshaling every available resource to support victims and their families.

In his remarks, Frey said, “Children were literally praying when this happened. You cannot put into words the gravity, tragedy, or absolute pain of this moment”. He announced the establishment of a family resource center to provide counseling, financial assistance, and logistical support to those affected. “We must do more than offer thoughts and prayers,” Frey added. “We will stand by these families and ensure they receive the care and justice they deserve.”

Mayor Frey also confirmed that law enforcement, along with state and federal partners, have contained the shooter and secured the school grounds. He urged the community to remain vigilant and to cooperate with ongoing investigations. “Our emergency response team is activated, and we will continue to update Minneapolis residents as we learn more,” Frey said, concluding with a call for unity in the face of unspeakable tragedy.
