One Killed and Several Injured in Series of Minneapolis Shootings

Minneapolis, MN - A wave of gun violence struck the city on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, beginning with a mass shooting in broad daylight and followed by two additional fatal shootings within a 14-hour span.
Mass Shooting Near Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, a lone gunman exited a vehicle at the intersection of East 29th Street and Clinton Avenue, unleashing approximately 30 rounds from a high-velocity .223 rifle into a group gathered on the sidewalk opposite Cristo Rey Jesuit High School. Police discovered one man dead at the scene and six others-five men and one woman-with gunshot wounds. Three victims were initially listed in critical condition, though all are expected to survive. No arrests have been made as investigators review “considerable evidence” to identify the shooter, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said. “The amount of firepower unleashed in broad daylight is utterly appalling and intolerable,” Chief O’Hara remarked to the press.
Evening Shooting in Whittier Neighborhood At approximately 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, another shooting occurred outside an apartment building near East 27th Street and 3rd Avenue South in the Whittier neighborhood. A man in his 20s suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died at Hennepin Healthcare. A second victim, also in his 20s, was dropped off at Abbott Northwestern Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries believed to be related to the same incident. No suspects have been identified.
Overnight Shooting Downtown Just after 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, a third shooting unfolded on Hennepin Avenue and Eighth Street in downtown Minneapolis. According to police, a gunman approached a group on the sidewalk and opened fire at close range, fatally wounding one man and injuring another. Evidence markers at the scene numbered in the double digits. Investigators have not determined whether this incident is connected to the earlier shootings.
Chief O’Hara expressed deep concern over the spate of violence: “The level of gun violence across the city within the last day is deeply unsettling. Our thoughts are with the victims, those fighting to recover, and the families affected. We will aggressively pursue every lead and need the community’s help to hold those responsible accountable and prevent further harm.” No arrests have been reported in any of the three shootings.
