FBI Concludes Two-Day Grid Search as Campground Closure Lifts

Leavenworth, WA - 08/27/2025 The Federal Bureau of Investigation wrapped up a two-day grid search near Rock Island Campground today, marking the final day of a temporary closure of the site where three young sisters were found murdered in June. Authorities announced that trails, roads and camping areas closed since Sunday will reopen to the public at sunset.

Sheriff Mike Morrison of the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office reaffirmed that roughly 100 agents and partner‐agency personnel combed steep, densely forested terrain on U.S. Forest Service land over Monday and Tuesday, but uncovered no new evidence of Travis Decker’s whereabouts or condition. DNA analysis from crime‐scene items continues to confirm Decker as the sole suspect in the June 2 homicides of his daughters Paityn (9), Evelyn (8) and Olivia (5).

Despite the conclusion of this intensive operation, law enforcement stressed the investigation remains active. The U.S. Marshals Service continues to offer a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading to Decker’s arrest. He should be considered armed and dangerous, and anyone with credible tips is urged to contact 911 or submit information at www.usmarshals.gov/tips.

Authorities emphasized there is still no evidence indicating whether Decker is alive or deceased, and vowed to follow every viable lead. “We will not stop until every possible avenue has been exhausted to bring Matthew Decker to justice and provide closure for the families and community,” Sheriff Morrison said.

Rock Island Campground and surrounding Forest Service lands will reopen to recreational access at the end of today’s daylight hours, signaling a return to normal public use after the closure period that began August 24 and lasted through August 27.
