YouTube TV-Fox Carriage Dispute Enters Final Day Ahead of Deadline

August 27, 2025 - As of this morning, YouTube TV subscribers have been warned that Fox-owned channels-including Fox Sports, Fox News and Fox Business-could go dark if parent companies Google and Fox Corp. fail to finalize a new carriage agreement by 5 p.m. ET today. The standoff comes just days before the kickoff of both the college and NFL seasons, heightening concerns among sports fans and news viewers.
In a blog post published Monday, YouTube TV reiterated that Fox is demanding “payments that are far higher than what partners with comparable content offerings receive,” and emphasized its aim to secure a deal “that accurately reflects the value of their content and is equitable for both parties without imposing extra costs on our subscribers”. If Fox programming is unavailable for an extended period, YouTube TV has pledged to issue a $10 credit to affected customers.
Fox Corp., meanwhile, issued its own statement expressing disappointment that Google “continually exploits its outsized influence by proposing terms that are out of step with the marketplace,” and warned that subscribers “might lose access to much of their preferred news, sports, entertainment, and local station programming unless Google takes meaningful action soon”.
Negotiations have been underway for weeks, with both sides pointing to the impending start of key sporting events-such as Saturday’s marquee Texas-Ohio State college football matchup and the first week of NFL games-as leverage. While similar disputes (notably with Paramount Global earlier this year) have typically been resolved at the last minute, today’s deadline marks a critical juncture: failure to reach an agreement by 5 p.m. ET will automatically result in a Fox blackout on YouTube TV.
Subscribers are advised to monitor updates from both YouTube TV and Fox, and to explore alternative streaming options-such as Fox’s direct-to-consumer service, Fox One-should the blackout occur.
