Zverev Cruises into US Open Second Round with Straight-Sets Victory

New York, August 27, 2025 - Third seed Alexander Zverev advanced to the second round of the US Open by defeating Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-4, in the final match on Arthur Ashe Stadium Wednesday afternoon.
Zverev, who has now reached the US Open second round for the ninth time, started strongly by breaking serve in the opening game and maintained control throughout the first set. Tabilo raised his level in the second, holding serve to reach 6-6, but Zverev clinched the tiebreak at the first opportunity after staving off a set point. In the third set, Zverev secured the decisive break in the tenth game to seal victory in two hours and eight minutes.
“It wasn’t great at times, to be very honest, but I’m through, I won in straight sets - that’s the most important thing,” Zverev reflected post-match, emphasizing his focus on executing under pressure as he chases his first Grand Slam title.
Up Next: Zverev faces Britain’s Jacob Fearnley, who earlier ousted Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in four sets, for a place in the third round.
